Veterinary Schools: Start Your Veterinary Career Here
A veterinary technician is a professional trained to provide assistance to veterinarians in providing medical assistance to animals. Examples of the duties of a veterinary technician are administering medications, performing laboratory tests and providing surgical and dental assistance. In order to become a certified veterinary technician, it is generally recommended to attend an AVMA or CVMA-accredited school. Whatever education and training a veterinary technician receives will play a vital role in the performance of his responsibilities. Once he completes his education, a veterinary assistant will need to pass a state-required exam in order to receive certification. A veterinary technician can be referred to as certified, registered or licensed depending on the regulations sanctioned by his resident state. There are also other fields in which a veterinary technician can specialize in; examples are dentistry, cardiology and neurology. In addition to animal clinics, a veterinary technician can also find employment in government offices, research facilities and veterinary schools.
